41 Isaiah / Part 1 (5)

Immanuel, our country

Isaiah 11:1-10
Mark 1:14 -15
T A wing of a blessing

We heard Messiah prophecy, a boy called "Immanuel" was born in Chapter 7 last week. The One was Jesus, and Isaiah became a pioneer as the witness who conveyed a plan of the salvation of God which had begun to start. The message about Immanuel continues. We want to hear the testimony of cleared Isaiah about the One with repeating it many times and talking, this morning.

"And the spread of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel."(8:8), this is the first testimony. Because Ahaz did not take an advice of Isaiah with "Take care, and be calm,"(7:4), probably Isaiah would tell this to his disciples after having put some time. Assyria that Ahaz demanded an alliance, attacked it from the back of the Silja/Ephraim allied forces, fell Damasucas, but Assyria demands a tribute from Ahaz. Isaiah mentions the critical situation of such Ahaz dynasty in Chapter 8, and he says again the One who is with God /Immanuel spreads the wing of the blessing fully. However, perhaps Isaiah's eye wasn't poured into an urgent menace, but was staring more at the point. It is here "seal the law among my disciples."(16). He would wanted that they catch this promise of salvation firmly with "God is with us"(10) and hear it as words of God, at the time of Jewish hopeless crisis that would visit before long. It is expected that prophets of the later succeed to this message before long..

This message continues to Chapter 9 verse 7 stanzas under the same situation, and we have the second testimony of Immanuel in the last. "Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them."(9:1-2) Matthew quotes this is Jesus. It is not an accident that most of disciples of Jesus were from Galilee. This is a testimony to "The One who is the light". "For a child will born to us, a son will be given to us; And the goverment will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace."(9:6-7)

U A plan of the salvation

From last part of intermediate times to the times of Jesus, probably it would be under such conditions that the Judaism which was called Zealot was born from Galilee. It sounds like piling up to the sorrowful voice that in particular, the peace, the peace and revival of David kingdom are people Israel of the Lord. And "Those who live in a dark land" will also pile up to us of the present. Isaiah cannot help testifying that Immanuel brings really peace.

However, I want to try to guess a focus in the a series of names that is given to Immanuel rather than I pry into this variously. There is it with "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace". I can not understand that for some reason, but I think, it is easy to understand rather to distinguish Counselor from this Wonderful. This message begins from that Immanuel is the One to be Wonderful. It will show a plan of salvation will begin from covered place of God. The messenger of the Lord who met the father Mnoah of Samson says "my name is wonderful" (Judges 13:18), and it is here like this next, "and He performed wonders while Manoah and his wife looked on.". And then, that wonder is going to be clarified. And it may be said that a serial name to continue hints a winning process to peace. As for the battle, the One called Immanuel/the Wonder works out a plan for our salvation (Counselor), and He takes the lead to get rid of a difficulty (Mighty), and the battle which leads to the eternal peace, it is here "The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this."(7). For our salvation, God did not move a hand just a little but He led himself suffered and ached, and was troubled. Don't you think this Immanuel really piles up Jesus?

V Immanuel, our country

It is from testimony of the third Immanuel, Chapter 11. Some time has passed from messages of Chapter 9, probably it is the times of Ahaz, and his son Hezekiah is already Council of Elders. This time, north kingdom extinction approached just before that. Probably pressure of Assyria to south kingdom increased, too, and they would be surely more frightened by a crisis. The message of Isaiah was brought in such a time.

"Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit." (11:1) Assyria which picked strong pressure to Judea in Chapter 10 is compared to a forest (a bush of forest, 新協同訳 10:34) where green is rich, but, oh, in contrast with it, Immanuel is pictured as one sprig which it grows, and the existence to be quite unreliable. However, it is said that the powerful big forest was cut it down with an ax (The Lord of hosts) of the strong iron, and it disappears without a trace, and it is said that the small sprout which grows on a stump will "bear fruit". It was BC610, 20 years later of south kingdom extinction that Assyria was changed in new Babylonia empire. And that Babylon will be changed to Persia ....., it is expected that large countries planning the world conquest are changed in sequence. Peace seems to be proof not to depend on military power of a large country.

The One that bring peace is "the branch which will spring from the stem of Jesse". Oh, Jesse is a name of father of David, and Immanuel is testimony to appear from a house of David who seems to have become a stump. Although there is the present crisis, David dynasty continues to exist, and nobody yet thinks that it is ruined. However, they lost trust to God, and the north kingdom already ran out of the existence. Perhaps south kingdom will trace the same road, too. Isaiah does not count such their crime and not denounces it either, but, about Immanuel, the testimony "And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord ..... But with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth; ..... Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins, And faithfulness the belt about His waist."(2-5), it sounds like that it is decisively missing in Israel to me. Will it not be the same about the present of us either?

"And the wolf will dwell with lamb, And the leopard will down with the kid, ..... For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord."(6-9) This is a scene of Immanuel like this "Then it will come about in that day That the nations will resort to the root of Jesse, Who will stand as a signal for the peoples; And His resting place will be glorious."(10). I remember the word of Jesus saying "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."(Mark 1:14). I want to think of our honor caused to such a peaceful country. However, in this present age when a dark aspect gradually deepens, the world that is so calm is prepared for us. In a message of Isaiah, we want to hear that splendor, aren't you so?
