40 Isaiah / Part 1 (4)

The name as a witness of our Lord

Isaiah 7:10 -17
Matthew 1:21-23
T To give grace

After he was summoned as a prophet, Isaiah kept silent for a while, but his activity as a prophet begins in the times of south kingdom king Ahaz. For Ahaz, he is upset and request Assyria for a reinforcement, because the Silja/Ephraim allied forces attacked, Isaiah tells he must not be afraid of Silja/Ephraim such as "the ashes", and commanded to trust his true God and to "be quiet". We heard that if we were afraid of God and were quiet, our Lord shined in us, and the people around us arrived at a same sacred place of God last week. We are also made to stand as "the light of the world" and "the salt of the earth" that Jesus was said. We want to hear from it's continuance this morning..

There is a message of Isaiah to Ahaz who still remains silent while hearing it so. From "Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord yor God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven."(7:10) It is only here in Isaiah that is said "your God". Here, we can hear decisive will of God "Recognize Me!". We must understand a demand to Ahaz to "Ask a sign" in this place. When, approximately 30 years later, king Hezekiah took illness of death, he asked like this "Oh Lord, I beseech Thee, how I have walked before Thee in truth and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Thy sight."(Isaiah 38), and God was met him. As the mark that "I have heard your prayer", God returned the shadow which fell onto the sundial after ten degrees, which was pursued to Ahaz does not seem so an exaggerated thing. It does not always mean a miracle that there is "make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven.", it hears what was hidden from a person, was good in a small thing that a cock calls three times at dawn, for example. It was asked whether he trusts it to God. It was a mark to show grace of one-sided God to follow Ahaz and south kingdom.

U Whose God is it?

"But Ahaz said, 'I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!'"(12) Because Jesus said for a fight with a Satan in the wilderness like this, "You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.", as for this, Ahaz's answer is seen as the thing which seemingly appeared from faith, but is not so. I would think, if he heard a demand of God, Ahaz thought that his plan to save his country had to be given up. He believed Jahweh, but he merely gave sacrifice to Jahweh by such a way that passes in the fire to his child in the foreign style. Perhaps he would distribute politics and religion. It seems to look alike Japanese religion consciousness that does not be at all with existence which trust and hear, though it puts hands together and worships it. For Isaiah (maybe he is a Israeli noble), perhaps he had a right to send an entrance on politics, it wanted not to be disturbed in decision as King either. Therefore, the king rejected Isaiah like whether that was as well quite the deep attitude which he believed in.

However, it is Israeli rule by God that is "Politics by God" which Isaiah demanded. Therefore he stepped into the field of responsibility as King of Ahaz. As for this appeal "Listen now, O house of David!", because the place of the interview with Ahaz is moved to the royal palace, and I think possibly this is a message at royalty statesman or at soldiers' conference. Would Ahaz express tentative respect to a prophet? If there was a meeting room of the royal palace, people had to be asked about the message of Isaiah that "Jahweh was your true King" still more. The leading role of the strategy meeting is true King Jahweh not Ahaz, how they fight against Silja/Ephraim allied forces. However, Ahaz did not accept the absolute somehow or other, and the people who attended it were similar.

A message of Isaiah begins. It says "Is it too slight a thing for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God as well?"(13) To "try the patience of men" will point at a country going to misery as a result that Ahaz refused it. Isaiah heard it with "try the patience of my God". Here, his expression turns from "your God" into "my God". Isaiah took refusal of Ahaz so, but will it be declaration that anymore true God is not God of Ahaz? Ahaz loses true steering and begins to stray. He is infringed many times by Silja/Ephraim allied forces and is to give Assyria which came over as a reinforcement before long a lot of tributes from a treasure storehouse of the royal palace and a shrine. Furthermore, the south kingdom comes to be attacked by Canaan various country around Edom, Philistines subordinated till now, and it's territory is cut.

V Tne name as a witness of our Lord

A message called one of the highest peak of Isaiah begins. "Therfore the Lord Himself will give you a sign; Befold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel."(14) Because this "virgin" means the young woman, it doesn't ask she is married or unmarried, and from the definite article touching it, it was thought whether a woman whom Ahaz knew well, for example, she was a queen, but the woman God identified is with propriety. Because this boy is talking in the inside of the central idea which prophets after Isaiah pay attention to, "The rest of the people" rather than a person of the time. It is here, "He will eat curds and honey at the time He knows enough to refuse evil an choose good." (15). "Curds and honey" seem to have been holy food before Israeli Egyptian emigration, these are food said to "Now it will come about on that day that a man may keep alive heifer and a pair of sheep; and it will happen that because of the abundance of the milk produced he will eat curds, for everyone that is left within the land will eat curds and honey."(21-22), this sounds like coming to live in the peace which the rest of the people finally got. It points at not Israeli ruin by Assyria armed forces but the dilapidation of the end and will point at a scene of the God's country rule by Messiah after that. It was a mark to Ahaz.

Immanuel, it is concerned with "The rest of the people" and it sounds with a person bringing the salvation of God. Matthew quoted this. "Now all this took place that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fufilled, saying 'Befold, the Virgin shall be with child, and shall bear a son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,' which translated means, 'God with us.'"(1:22 -23) It is a thing in the case of Jesus birth. You may hear that this is Jesus. The One whom Isaiah showed was Messiah. It is here the clear form of Messiah faith which flared up in the intermediate times, and will bear fruit to Jesus. It may be said that Isaiah was a pioneer of the witness who showed Jesus in this sense. God has started a big plan of the salvation now. We don't know yet when that One comes. Surely if Ahaz accepted Him, the time considered it as ......, but, he refused that One, and time of Jesus was established in God. Isaiah felt this "God with us" in the history of the salvation of God, then, he became a witness of the Lord, I think.

Now, it is a matter about us. Isaiah showed it, and the first disciples such as a Matthew took it and became new witnesses. Thus, many seniors of faith link the name to the witness of Jesus like a cloud, afterward. We want to hear it with "God with us". Therefore we believe Jesus and hear that the One is with us by accepting Him. Because the Lord is with us, we link our names to the witness, and it is ......
