53 Isaiah / Part 2 (2)

I am your God

Isaiah 41:8-10
Mark 5:36
T Be separated from God distantly

In the beginning of Isaiah Part 2, "Comfort, O comfort My people,"(40:1) is there. This will be the central subject of the whole Part 2. We have heard, "solace" will mean with "breathe in breath deeply", and it is a declaration that breath of life of God is blown into the people who are hurt and ached, and a new event begins from there. The overture that the new event begins is the subject of this morning. In particular, it is from 40:12 to 41:8-10.

At first, this is the point that we must learn, but there was a fundamental problem not to be able to hear solace of God in Israel. Israel was separated from God distantly, and they have lost sight of God. Prophet remains silent, and God leaves distantly and He does not listen to their cry. Therefore they engraved an image of God into a stone and a tree and were as God of oneself. The people of the north kingdom which was destroyed in Assyria accepted gods of the land where they settled down in, but perhaps, Isaiah is seeing keenly that south kingdom is to trace the same road.

They had to reflect God from the most basic place. First of all, Isaiah insists that God is "the Lord of creation". "The hand of the Lord has done this, And the Holy One of Israel created it."(41:20) This claim is repeated many times until Chapter 45(44:26, 43:7, 42:5...). An article of Genesis Chapter 1 which was written nature all things and human creation will be originally what all the made people should share as a thing of oneself. However, a Jew connects it only to the Israeli history, and believes that God to have done both of nature creation and human creation for Israeli. They were led by that God, and built a country in Cannan, and chosen people Israel was born from there. Aside from that self-centeredness, they had to remember it once again. When Isaiah repeats himself many times with "God created nature all things.", he wanted that they realize the Lord of creation is our God again. At the same time, all of us share an article of Genesis Chapter 1 and must know that we became an existing person by the work of creation of God again. The first to remember God can be said to be that point.

U Our judgement is not passed over from our God

And here, a message of Isaiah doesn't confine to hold only that God created nature all things and a human being. Even if how it is splendid, but it may be said just like "God was created" "Be so? But we of the present age have no relation.". Yes, it may be said that the present age is right the times when a human being has cut off relation with God so. However, it is not so. Because God created all things, therefore that strong claim to extend that sovereignty was unfolded to the thing which was created even now, and this is the second message which Isaiah is going to tell. "Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, And marked off the heavens by the span. And calculated the dust of the earth by the measure, and weighed the mountains in a balance, And the hills in a pair of scales?"(40:12-), and "Who stretched out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in."(40:22-). This claim of God which is "whom I created", it piles up to the assertion that "I am the sovereign". Surely it will be declared a relation of a person by insisting on sovereignty. "Why do you say, O Jacob, and assert, O Israel, 'My way is hidden from the Lord, And the justice due me escapes the notice of my God'? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable."(40:27-31) Will these words not be the declaration of God that He is concerned with us still now? We must hear it. "The justice due me escapes the notice of my God.", this will not be only God consciousness of former Israel, but it will continue until the present age as human common God consciousness. However, here, sorrowful God's cry, "I am your God!", is complaining. on God consciousness. Even if we lose sight of God, He cannot leave and overlook us.

V I am your God

When God is concerned with us, the central subject of part 2 is taken up by a text this morning. The first is from the beginning. "But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, Descendant of Abraham My friend, You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its remotest parts, And said to you, 'You are My servant, I have chosen you and not rejected you.'"(41:8-9) About what there are with "from the ends of the earth" and "from its remotest parts", there are various opinions in various ways, for example, it is Babylon or Ulu of Chaldaea which Abraham lived, but I want you to pay attention to the way of speaking which was called first "Israel" was expressed in other words with "Jacob". An example to call "Israel" "Jacob" expressly, it comes out from Isaiah 40 times, but about two-thirds concentrates on after Chapter 40. Perhaps it will be to take a problem of Jacob into consideration. In an article of Jacob, until he is called by the name as "Israel"(Genesis Chapter 27-33), his arrogant and full of deception ..., such his extremely human being part is drawn. He deceives his father Isaac and seizes a blessing of older brother Esau by force, and run away to uncle Laban of Haran at last, but he increases his property by an dirty method there. A name named Jacob was a meaning of "the person who pushed it aside", but in the case of him, his human being of loss and gain calculation always gave priority to it than trust to the Lord. Isaiah especially noticed such his weakness / a crime of human being, and he would express it in other words "Jacob". "From the ends of the earth", we hear it is pointed at "crime" which is far from God, but we were called from there. Primarily when God is going to associate with our "crime" thoroughly, we can feel strong determination of God in the word of "selection".

I think that this is the central subject of Isaiah, but it is another thing. God say to us who were called from a crime. "Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God."(41:10) This claim is repeated many times (43:3, 44:6 ...), but the strong wish how He want to be our God seems to reach. Though I have introduced the word of the German theologian of "Fur Uns Gott" many times, this is a meaning of "God for us". Even though no one was there, but God is God, however, He want to be God for us. "I have chosen you and not rejected you.", it guesses God's love here really exactly. Don't you think so? It is asked how we meet love of God. Though we have heard that it is developed with "Here is your God!" in Isaiah Part 2 (40:9), but it will be our reply to continue "watching" that God. Isaiah's message seems to conclude there, what kind of God we must stare at. That One is the One who is called the creator of the whole world, the sovereign and the One who called us from a crime, and as it is declared there "Here is your God!", He is the One whom our prayer is going to arrive and there is. Our reply is to answer to the love of the One. Here is it "Do not fear,", but we may hear this with the advice of "the faith" which was often used by Jesus. To the One who is going to associate with us thoroughly, we must have deep faith again. Don't you think so?
