26 Hosea(3

As for the love as for the pain

Hosea 6:1-6
Ephesians 5:2
T Not a confession of formula

The new Revised Version of the leather-bound bible which became tattered is put on my desk. There are various notes there messily, and many lines have been pulled everywhere. "For your loyalty is like a morning cloud, and like the dew which goes away early." (6); in this place, a red line has been pulled. It is the place that my wife came across here and taught me it before.

It is the third of Hosea. About words of <loyalty>, if it includes other translations (2:19 blessing, 13:14 pity, 4:1 kindness - but it becomes other words in the original only in here), it is used six times in whole 新改訳 of Hosea, and it comes out twice in Chapter 6. And at least, it seems to be central messages of Hosea in Chapter 6. This morning it is from 6:4, but I want to try to think about faith of a prophet while focusing on words of this loyalty.

There is it in Verse 6, "for I delight in loyalty rather than sacrifice, and in the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.". If we read Verse 1 to 3 obediently, the Israeli figure who stands sacrificing a burnt offering will rise. "Come, let us return to the Lord. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bandage us. He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day that we may live before Him. So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord. His going forth is as a certain as the dawn; and He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain watering the earth." (6:1-3) This important point; "He will revive us after two days; he will raise us up on the third day", it seems to be a prophecy of resurrection of Jesus, however, the New Testament does not quote it as testimony from the Old Testament anywhere. This may be ceremonious words of repentance of priest of Bethel that reacted for words, "I will go away and return to My place until they acknowledge their guilt and seek My face; in their affliction they will earnestly seek Me." (5:15). "As certain as the dawn", "like the rain" "like the spring rain"; it is pointed out these are the related words of Baal festival of Cannan. About this Verse 2, "revive us"; it had better seem to translate it as "keep life".

Their repentance Hosea heard was not the thing which is touched by this prophet. It seems that faith of such a superficial formula may gradually seep in us of the present age.

U What is asked now

We must hear words of God which Hosea told, "For your loyalty is like a morning cloud", in the background I have spoken now. This "loyalty" becomes "love" in 口語訳, and it seems to deserve Chesed of Hebrew. Originally, it is a meaning of kind heart or a feeling pity for another person, but, when we think with love between human beings, you will notice the state of Israel that it is pointed out "loyalty like a morning cloud" is becoming more terrible than "to sell the righteous for money and the needy for a pair of sandals." (Amos 2:6). We took it, a crime of Israel is becoming more heavy than the human step which was pointed out in Amos, "they prey on poor people."; it is to violate the most sacred part of God, but, in here of Hosea, the interest of a prophet does not move from the low place to a high place, and as for ignoring a sacred part of God or lacking in consideration to a poor person, it seems to be pointed out that it is a crime of the same line both. Faith is for love to our neighbor to be asked.

However I want you to be careful here, "Love to a neighbor", it is not love of humanism. God is not God only for me, but He is God of that person and this person, and He does not wish us to fall in a crime and He wants us to encounter the salvation of cross of Jesus, too. A race or religion do not matter there. In fact, Israel was put up as a country of priest, a country of prayer, to such people, but they forgot it, and only lived in the pride that they themselves were citizens of selection. However now, it is asked that it is "a crime", but they are still brandishing faith only for a pretense. After Verse 6:7, it tells it. When I read until here, I became afraid whether a church of the present age of ourselves is not piled up to such stance. We should notice that we must live for only love that words of God told.

V As for the love as for the pain

We have heard that the state of Israel faith which was said "Your loyalty is like a morning cloud", it put ours on top of one another, was scolded. Here, I want to try to investigate another thing, it was in a deep heart of Hosea who did such a way of speaking.

When "loyalty" said to here was "love", I touched it before. Hosea put this on top of one another wife Gomel. This was scolding from God to Israel, but, in the same way, Hosea would scold Gomel, too; "Your love is like a morning cloud. And you are not faithful.". Hosea was said "Go, take to yourself a wife of harlotry" by God, and he met her, but from Chapter 3 etc., it is felt that he did not marry for message to Israel and a suffering of his love is appearing there. There is it in 2:20, "I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness.". This faithfulness means his hot thought burning down the whole himself. Hosea did not mind the badness of the reputation making Gomel his wife at all, she was a prostitute of a shrine. He loved her and got three children, however, a passion of his love that he bought back her with faithfulness, (she has returned to a prostitute of Baal shrine of Bethel and betrayed Hosea who offered a happy family), reaches here.

Because such he puts Gomel on top of one another in Israel, but, it is not thought that he quarrels with her when "you do not have loyalty". Here, life for ten several years with Gomel is piled up vividly and is known. That opening was declaration of a three-legged race with her at Chapter 3 when "You shall stay with me for many days. You shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a man; so I will also be toward you." (3:3). She who is his own other self cannot throw away a blind belief to Baal, he would assume that it was love / the cordiality seemed "morning cloud", and would confess it was his own state and his own problem, I think. In sharpness of his sensitivity that he said to "I will also be toward you.", I feel his thought. Hosea did not use Gomel for a tool of a message, no, there was not even such a consciousness, and while hoping his own pain and love become genuine, he has felt a skimpiness of love to love her earnestly, I think. While thinking of a skimpiness of our love, with Hosea, we wish to be wrapped in love of Jesus who forgave our crime on a cross (Ephesians 5:2).
