T With a pain of a prophet

As the fourth genealogy of prophets, I want to take up author Hoshea of first book / Hosea of Minor Prophets. He is a prophet who told a message of God to the Northern Kingdom.

As there is it in Verse 1:1 thus, "The word of the Lord which came to Hosea the son of Beeri, during the days Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and during the days of Jerboam the son of Joash, king of Israel."; he was called as a prophet in the times of last years of the second Jaroboam that Amos finished prophecy activity, and he seems to have been active until the time when the Northern Kingdom was ruined by Assyria. As for this message, because the names of four kings of south kingdom are given here, it is not the thing which put only the Northern Kingdom in a field of vision, and it seems that there may have been some combination of the south and the north in his consciousness. By the way, it is not a correct generation that is said "Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah" to specify the activity time, but it points at about BC760~715, and it reaches to Hosea of the last King, through the age of the disturbance that is called an anarchic age from the second north kingdom Jeroboam generation end. He put a pain of the Northern Kingdom pointed out on a pain of family life of his own, and it was not the cold message which was looked at like other people's affairs, and it has become his message. The most many things are not known about him, but he worried about the future of the Northern Kingdom so as to feel it with own pain, will it be because he was from Ephraim that is near to the Northern Kingdom southernmost extreme? He often called the Northern Kingdom "Ephraim" (the following of 4:17), but a sacred place Bethel of Baal worship of the Northern Kingdom is just a stone's throw from there.

Many people feel that Minor Prophets are extremely difficult, but such many glitter words as jewels which charm people are studded with how many, in this book. This time, I want to take up his words that myself was chiseled by a heart mainly than the things such as the time or its background.

U Atonement

It is Chapter 1 Verse 2. It is the beginning of this book, and it is the central event that his family life and a problem of the Northern Kingdom have piled up and become his pain. There is it; "When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea, 'Go, take to yourself a wife of harlotry, and have children of harlotry; for the land commits flagrant harlotry, forsaking the Lord.' So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim.". This marriage had really happened in his life, and he had to condense a private part of his beloved wife which must not announce it originally and the long time when three children are born, and to put it on top of one another in Israel; of all things, he had to tell it as the most serious thing of his message. We wish to try to hear such suffering and sorrow of him as a prophet; these will be messages of love jam-packed closely.

About his wife Gomel, it needs some explanation first. I have touched Israeli Cannan many times till now, but Cannan taking in civilization of Cannan is accompanied by their religion / Baal worship which may be said with a symbol of the civilization. It was not a rare thing in ancient religion, but there was the faith taking the blessing of Baal through mediums; and it seems there have been women for Baal worship as mediums = mediums of shrine. Perhaps it seems that Gomel was the woman who has attached such a seal named a thing of Baal to a face. I want to try to imagine the time when Hoshea offered taking care of Gomel to Rabbi of Baal, but perhaps he would pay money and expiate her (reference 3:2). I do not understand the reason why Gomel has been appointed, but this is a poaching if we see it from a side of Rabbi of Baal, and they cannot have needed to part this young woman of a breadwinner with fear to leak the internal conditions to outside. Then, Gomel might be an old woman not useful as a medium of Baal shrine, or she might be a young woman brainwashed by Baal faith and the internal conditions were not able to leak out forth, both of them seem to apply. We can not identify whether she was an Israeli or a foreigner, from the name such as Gomel, but she would be an unhappy birth to be sold for poverty, and fell into such circumstances. Therefore she does not seem to know a means continuing happiness. She betrayed Hosea and ran to the other man after marriage, but God said to Hosea to pull her back again and love her, so he paid a large amount of money and took her over (Chapter 3). And God and Hosea continued loving such her, and have put it on top of the state of Israeli crime.

V Called with a new name

There is it with "children of harlotry", but it will not be necessary to regard this as a child whom Gomel brought. It seems that it points at three children born among Hoshea. There is it; "Name him Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will punish the house of Jehu for the bloodshed of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel." (4); "Name her Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer have compassion on the house of Israel, that I should ever forgive them." (6), "Name him Lo-ammi, for you are not My people and I am not your God." (9). And the children were symbols of the judgment for Israel of God. I want to try to think about Verse 9, but there is it when "For you are not My people and I am not your God". This denies words to insist on existence of God that is said "I AM WHO I AM" (Exodus 3:14), and it is way of speaking to say about "for you are not My people and I am not your God.". In other words, the contract that they concluded with God is removed, and it is a declaration that an Israeli basic ideal method, "We are citizens of selection of God", would be destroyed by the root.

I repeat it again, but we took it from a message of prophet Amos when the judgment of God to the Northern Kingdom was already decided. However, a prophet like Hoshea appeared after Amos, and the judgment to Israel has been still declared. From there, we feel that God wished Israel will be changed while saying it has been decided. However, a contract of God, "I will be 'I AM THAT I AM.'", is removed; and will it be a final judgment to north Israel kingdom extinction established here? I feel weight of words of God whom Hoshea carried. In the present age, we want to tell such a message and to hear that messages told in a church hide such weight.

However, for such a final judgment, there are such words of the prophet; a person was done an amnesty on the next day he entered a prison. "You the number of the sons of Israel will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered; and it will come about that, in the place where it is said to them, 'You are not My people,' it will be said to them, 'You are the sons of the living God.'"(10) Israel which ruined with an umpire of God and should have died out, would revive with the new name called "Sons of the living God". When they Israel have continued being loved by God, same as wife Gomel which he loved, this would be a central message of prophet Hoshea. Hoshea looks at a scene of the end, but there is neither the north nor the south anymore there. "And the sons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint for themselves on leader, and they will go up from the land,"(11), it would be a scene of the new Israel birth that he dreamed of. Will it be overdoing that we watch Jesus in "one leader" here? I think that God's promise is told here, it expiates us on the cross and makes us live in a blessing of the Lord, though we should die in a crime and it is natural. "even us, whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles." (Romans 9:24) Here, I want to reaffirm the blessing of God's promise.
