57 To wish to walk with Him

Luke 12:1-12
Isaiah 43:1-7
T Hypocritical trap

T Hypocritical trap In the seat of the meal that Pharisee invited Jesus (11:37) , Jesus scolded Pharisees. Their argument is written down in nothing here, but it is imagined that there were the intense exchanges. After Jesus left, Pharisees began to follow Jesus out of intense hatred. It may be said that the event of a cross is the first step that has begun to be realized. Meanwhile, it was a thing in such situation that a large quantity of numerical crowds gathered, and it was that "they were stepping on one another." (12:1).

At first, Jesus began to talk against disciples. "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy." (1) Yeast is the fermenting dough which stored to inflate bread (the dough which left partly when cooked bread the day before). Jesus compared this to the hypocritical of Pharisee which produced excessive and radical agitation. Because Jew knew well that just a little dough blew up the bread for the day of whole family, they might understand this example easily. When hear the scolding of Jesus in Chapter 11 in this way, the small rules which they thought the teaching of Moses were not so; and those rules were depending on an ego of Pharisee and Sopher, and those rules were their hypocritical lump which grew day by day; at least disciples would have seemed to understand it so. "But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you whispered in the inner rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops." (2-3) The first half points to the hypocrisy of Pharisees, but because the subject in the latter half becomes "you", we hear it is the warning to disciples. The same traps of Pharisees, are waiting even in the church which will be built from now on; we, modern us, must hear it carefully..

U You are precious

The whisper of plot in darkness. Even if we do not say the collusion or behind-the-screen politics, there is it any place in the world; and the church is not exception, too. It is to assume inconvenient people who may hear it, and it looks at only a person. However, in a church of Jesus, there is the One whom we should stare at than people gathering in the church for worship.

"And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear; fear the One who after He has killed has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, faer Him! Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? And yet not one of them is forgotten before God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows." (4-7) ...Jesus taught that each one of disciples is valuable existence before God in this way. Jesus takes good care of each one of them; it would have reached well to the disciples, I think.

Anyway, it seems Jesus said that these disciples will walk thorny ways called the martyrdom before long. The eyes of Jesus had been already turned to the step of the church which would come afterwards from the event called the cross of Himself, at that time. The early church would build in persecution and martyrdom really, but it took on a third dimension still more in the times of Luke. When we hear here like that, it is felt that "you are more value than many sparrows" was what Luke wanted to hear most. The comfort of Lord said to "Since you are precious in My sight" (Isaiah 43:4), will not it appear boilingly, here?

V To wish to walk with Him

We will hear the next. "And I say to you, every one who confesses Me before men, the Son of Man shall confess him before the angels of God; but he who denies Me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. And everyone who will speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him." (8-10)

To recognize Jesus. This says confession of the faith to Jesus. And it is said that Jesus recognizes a person of the faith, too. "Before the angels of God"; it points to the time when God is accompanied by angels and arrives at the seat of judgment. And, we are said "there is a crime", and we are charged and are drawn in that place, and a one who charges us / a Satan is waiting there to clarify our all guilt. However, Jesus also sits down in its seat as a defense lawyer, and stands to defend us there. "To recognize it", it is declaration which is said "he belongs to me" and "he is innocent because I expiated his all sins with on a cross". It does not need to say any more that God as the judge accepts the defense of the One who is a childie. And, by defense of Jesus, He treats us as His child. What honor will it be? But we must learn it that our confession of faith is asked in the scene of persecution and the martyrdom, too. "Before men", it is putting in such meaning. By confession of faith that we put such will and readiness, the unexpected appeal, "My friends", is done. We want to meet that appeal faithfully.

However, it is said to the person who does not recognize Jesus, "I do not know you". We must hear this as a decision without overturning anymore. In a seat of the judgment of God performed at the time of end! Will it be warning not to be so? It is said, "but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him". Probably, it seems the situation that the person says to change to other way of life, when the person who does confession of faith denies the faith and says he does not know Jesus; however, at there, too, the last-minute situation of "at the time of persecution and martyrdom" peeps out with such face. Probably, it would have begun to already show such situation in the times of Luke. The reference about the possibility of their permission about "everyone (probably, general people) who will speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him"; it seems to rather ask about their stance who did confession of faith to Jesus.

Jesus who suffered on a cross understood enough such our weakness. This was not to cut off us, but was talked as soothing us. "And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not become anxious about how or what you should speak in your defense, or what you should say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say." (11-12) Jesus foresaw that such things would come in the near future by all means. It is not only the times of disciples. In the modern church which already greeted the times of the end, we will have to hear it with preparing. However, it is said that there is the intervention of the Helper / the Holy Spirit there. Here, the power of the Lord who continue to work still in the times of the present age, is felt! We want to continue our step of the faith with this One, as a witness of the Gospel, as a witness of a cross and a resurrection, don't you?
